Woland - 2011
Igor Khokhlovkin and Marina Kalmykova
Marina Kalmykova studied at the Theatre Department of the State Conservatory in Riga, Latvia, and then became an actress at the Youth Theatre of Riga. From the age of 12 she plays classical guitar. In 1997 she moved to Germany, where she played as an actress in several theaters.
Igor Khokhlovkin studied at the school of the Moscow Art Theatre and then became an actor and director at the Russian Theatre in Riga, and later at the Latvian State Philharmonic. He also worked for several years at the BBC Radio in London. Nowadays, Kalmykova and Khokhlovkin live in Düsseldorf.
Regular visitors of this website may recognize Khokhlovkin as the actor who performed the role of Woland in the photo project of the French photographer Jean Daniel Lorieux in which Isabelle Adjani performed the role of Margarita. For the trivia: in that series, Khokhlovkin could only partially impersonate Woland. The role of Woland as a knightt in the last chapter of the novel was indeed claimed by the sponsor of the project, the wealthy Russian tycoon Yevgeny Yakovlev, who desperately wanted to be on the photo with Adjani. Which was a little unfortunate for the series, because the photos with Yakovlev are rather ridiculous.
On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Mikhail Bulgakov, Kalmykova and Khokhlovkin made a literary and musical composition entitled Woland. Igor Chochlovkin played the roles of Woland, Berlioz, Bezdomny and Likhodeev, while Kalmykova represented Hella.
After a tryout in Tomsk, Russia, in November 2010, they performed Woland several times in Germany, Latvia and Russia in May 2012. In October 2012, it was again represented in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
