A mester és Margarita - 2017
Levente Gyöngyösi
Levente Gyöngyösi (°1975) was born in Cluj-Napoca in Transylvania, Romania. In 1989, one month before the Romanian Revolution, he moved to Budapest, Hungary, at the age of 14. He studied at the Franz-Liszt Academy of Music. He’s known for having written a cantata honouring the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian revolution, a Missa Lux et Origo, a Missa Vanitas vanitatum, a Saint Luke Passion, and four symphonies.
In 2016, Gyöngyösi started working on A mester és Margarita, an opera-musical version of Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel, blending elements of contemporary opera and light musical entertainment in a pleasant, clear style. That’s why, on June 24, 2017, at the world premiere of the piece, a rock band played along with a symphonic orchestra at the Bartók Plusz Operafestival at the National Theatre in Miskolc, Hungary. The libretto for the opera-musical has been written by the poet, translator and playwright Szabolcs Várady (°1943), based on a scenario written by Robert Bognár (°1947) and András Schlanger (°1961).
