Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand is een Schotse rockformatie, opgericht in 2002, met as thuisbasis Glasgow. De groep werd enkele keren genomineerd voor de Grammy Awards. Het nummer Love and Destroy, met het opzwepende refrein «Margarita - Love and Destroy» werd in 2004 uitgebracht als de b-kant van de single Michael en is gebaseerd op de scène waarin Margarita over Moskou vliegt op weg naar de heksensabbat.

Op de website van Franz Ferdinand, wordt uitgelegd wat de song betekent voor Alex Kapranos, frontman van de groep.

«This track, one of Franz Ferdinand's early creations, is based on the novel 'The Master And Margarita' by Mikhail Bulgakov.

Unlike many novels that explore the conflict between Jesus and Pontius Pilate and quickly become theological essays, Bulgakov introduces the Jesus-Pilate conflict and supporting events within a story set in the modern day Russia, complete with witches, sorcery, Satan's ball, and accurate portraits of somewhat complex, contradictory, and sometimes despicable Russian characters bred under absurd communist notions of utopian society.

A dream was turned into reality for Alex when Franz Ferdinand played the song in Russia in May 2005. Early versions of the song are referred to as 'Margarita'.»

Franz Ferdinand bracht in 2013 hun vierde studio-album uit onder de titel Right Notes, Right Words, Wrong Order. Om dit album te promoten werd een adembenemende live sessie opgenomen in de legendarische Konk Studios in Londen, die als The Passport Edition in een beperkte deluxe versie van 500 exemplaren werd verspreid. Eén van de nummers van de Konk sessies is de versie van Love and Destroy die u kan bekijken met de link hieronder.
