The Traugot brothers

Biography

The brothers Aleksander Traugot (°1931) and Valery Traugot (1936-2009), both born in Leningrad, learned drawing from their father Georgy Traugot, and made their first book illustrations together with him in 1956. Since then, they use the common pseudonym G.A.V. Traugot.

They illustrated more than 400 books, including works by Hans Christian Andersen, Homer, Pushkin, Tolstoy, Nabokov, all together good for 80 million copies sold. Their work can also be seen in famous galleries such as the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Russian State Museum in Saint Petersburg.

In 2005, the publishing house Vita Nova presented a special luxury edition of The Master and Margarita with illustrations by the brothers Traugot.
