Claudia Vega - full name Claudia Vega Bensadón (°1996) - is a musician and songwriter from Madrid, Spain. She started writing music when she was 12 years old and is influenced by diverse artists and genres. She sings in French, Spanish and English. Her uncles, Antonio Vega Tallés (°1957) and Nacho García Vega (°1961), were the founding members of Nacha Pop, a very successful Spanish pop group in the 80’s. Settled in London for a few years, she has already given solo concerts in London, Seoul, as well as in Madrid, Valladolid and Valencia. In January 2018, she recorded her first single Mom.
In 2019, Clauda Vega worked on her album Spanish Manners with the flamenco and urban producer José Losada. One of the tracks is Master & Margarita. The song was written in the summer of 2018. «A friend of mine that was living in Jerusalem had come to visit me when I was in Seoul», Vega explained. «She flew to Moscow from Jerusalem and took the Trans-Siberian Express until she reached Vladivostok, where she took a boat to reach South Korea. She was reading Bulgakov's book, which takes place in between Moscow and Jerusalem, just as her trip, so I read the book and wrote the song».
Vega's interpretation casts her as Margarita during Satan’s ball. «My family is Sephardic Jewish and every Friday night we have a crazy dinner at the same table with the same food as you see in the music video», she explains, «...so I imagined that dinner with the Devil and my house».
The video of Master & Margarita was in fact shot at Vega's grandmother's house. «She cooked the food. The actors are my uncles, cousins and my twin brother», Vega explained. The video was co-directed by Vega’s close friend Ana García Perrote of the Spanish indie rock band Hinds in collaboration with her partner and director Keane Shaw.
