Larisa Dolina - Kot Begemot
English > Adaptations > Music > Pop music > Larisa Dolina
Larisa Aleksandrova Dolina (°1955) was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. She is a Russian pop and jazz singer and actress. When she was three years old she returned with her parents to their home city Odessa in Ukraine. There she attended music school where she learned to play cello.
Her musical career started in 1971 when she was a singer in the pop band Мы одесситы [My odessity] or We, People of Odessa. It was the start of a successful career, during which she won numerous awards, not only as a singer, but also as a director, TV personality and actress in over 70 films.
In 1993 Larisa Dolina performed the song Кот Бегемот [Kot Begemot] or The Cat Behemoth on her CD Льдинка [Ldinka].
It's a very lighthearted tune without much depth in which the singer assures that, if she had to choose a hero from a novel or a story as a friend, her choice would certainly be Behemoth from The Master and Margarita, rather than the Count of Monte Cristo, Sherlock Holmes, Hamlet or Othello. Just nice to know.
