Vladimir Nikolaevich Semashkov (°1971) is a Russian singer who was born in Tula, an industrial city south of Moscow. He already started writing songs when he was 14 years old.
Semashkov became a teacher in Physical education but he also took singing classes at the music school of Kaliningrad. Later he worked as an actor at the Kachalin Drama Theatre in Novomoskovsk and as a journalist and correspondent for the radio.
Meanwhile, he performed on stage the songs he wrote. Although he writes his own songs, and often plays them only accompanied by his guitar, he does not want be called a Russia bard. «My songs are a mix of jazz, rock, pop and chanson,» he says, «sometimes I'm even even slipping away into mysterious Russian gypsy romances».
He made several CDs of which the first one, Жизнь [Zhizn$] or Life, was released in 1995.
In 2006, Vladimir Semashkov wrote the song Мастер и Маргарита [Master i Margarita], which was recorded on his album Отель [Otel] or Hotel.
