Eduard Leonidovich Lazarev (°1935) is a composer from Moldova. He is, among others, the composer of the Moldovan anthem and wrote ballet music and soundtracks for films. In April 1979 - he was already 44 years old - he made a well noticed entrée in the Bolshoy Theatre in Moscow because he interspersed music with spoken excerpts from the speeches of Vladimir Lenin in his opera Summoned to the Revolution (Leniniana). The opera lasted a mere nine performances and after this experience, Lazarev limited his actions to Moldova.
Between 1974 and 1983 he wrote Master and Margarita, a ballet in 8 acts. On the cover is depicted the painting of Christ Carrying the Cross by Hieronymus Bosch.
