Herman van Gestel
Biografie
After having studied Aerospace Engineering, the Dutchman Herman van Gestel started with photography as an autodidact. His talent was soon noticed: after eighteen months he was accepted at the Art Academy Saint Joost in the city of Breda. Later he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague.
After having been trained as a make-up artist and stylist, van Gestel was able to define his own vision and definition of fashion and beauty, and he became a fashion photographer, with activities in Amsterdam, Londen and New York. He works for famous brands like L'Oréal, Vichy and AvantGarde.
As a social documentary photographers he shows his commitment to people and society. He creates the opportunity to visualise people in a penetrating way with relation to their environment. Rather than creating beautiful images, he examines and discoveres them.
In 2007, he made a series of fashion photos with Russian models in a Russian setting, and he inspired himself on Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita.
