In the Crimea
September 17, 2004
The biblical shootings for the new TV-series were made in the Crimea, where ancient Yershalaim had been reconstructed. Ukrainian policemen were dressed as Roman legionaries and the local population served as the crowd at Yeshua's execution. It's a tough job though to suggest the unbearable heat described in the novel, since autumn already started in the Crimea and the evenings are already quite chilly.
When, in the evening, in a temperature of + 13 centigrades the storm has to be simulated, the fire brigade are squirts cold water over the actors who had to undergo the wind machine as well. Thunder and lightnings will be added later by the animation studio. Right after the shootings director Bortko orders to get Yeshua from the cross quickly. A sauna would do him good.
