Caluwaerts & Blijweert - A Closer Walk With Behemoth
English > Adaptations > Music > Other genres > Caluwaerts & Blijweert
The piano player Joris Caluwaerts (°1980) and the guitar player Elko Blijweert (°1976) studied together at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium. Their crazy, legendary terror jazz combo Franco Saint De Bakker was initially created as a graduation project, yet they delivered three albums with it. Meanwhile, Caluwaerts also played with the rock band Zita Swoon and Blijweert with the less popular, yet quite inspiring and authentic rock band Dead Man Ray.
They were, together or separately, involved in various musical projects. As Tip Toe Topic they made new music for the Triadic Ballets created y the German all-round artist Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943), a staff member of the famous art school Bauhaus. In 2013 they also recorded the album Left Bank Drive, with the soundtrack of the performance Monkey Sandwich and the eponymous film made by the Belgian choreographer and director Wim Vandekeybus (°1963).
A Closer Walk With Behemoth
In 2018, Caluwaerts and Blijweert created the jazz performance A Closer Walk With Behemoth which was performed for the first time in Antwerp in February 2019.
A quintet played a kind of tragicomic music theater. The pieces of music were interspersed with the story of three men meeting in a park in Moscow. They talk about the past, the present and the future, a saxophonist is decapitated by a tram as it was predicted, and there is a chase by a giant jazz cat.
