The Master and Margarita on TV
On June 27, 2014, the Juliusz Osterwa Theatre in Lublin, Poland, presented a remarkable premiere of the piece Mistrz i Małgorzata.
Director Artur Tyszkiewicz had used the first Polish translation of The Master and Margarita, made by Irena Lewandowska and Witold Dabrowski in 1969, to bring the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov to life on stage in an original setting. The press reported then that the director «had placed the audience at the scene, and the actors in the audience.».
Today, two and a half years later, the piece is still very popular. Whenever the piece is mentioned on the bill, the theatre is completely full, and it's almost impossible to get tickets.
Soon, everyone in Poland can enjoy the show of the Juliusz Osterwa Theatre. On November 22 and 23, an extensive film crew of the Polish television channel TVP Kultura came to Lublin, equipped with nine cameras to record the performance of the Theatre Juliusz Osterwa.
Mistrz i Małgorzata by the Juliusz Osterwathe Theatre in Lublin will be broadcast on December 26, 2016, at 18:00.
