Biography
Andrey Aleksandrovich Kharshak (°1950) comes from an artistic family. In 1975, he graduated from the Ilya Repin Institute of Graphic Arts, Sculpture and Architecture. Besides paintings, colour etchings, lithographs and paintings, he made many illustrations for books.
Generally, his illustrations for The Master and Margarita, which he made between 1987 and 1990, are considered as his most important work.
In 1991, Andrey Kharshak started making oil paintings on the theme of the architecture of old Saint Petersburg. From 1996 to 2003 he was head of the Graphics department of the North West Institute for Reprographics and he was also artistic director of the St. Petersburg Center for Books and Graphics.
